Chapter One
“Dad no! –(blackout with sirens)- It was my fathers fault, he got mad, he- he didn’t see the light and he stepped off the curb, but now he’s probably better. Dad, why. Why did you do it? You should have known… that the light was still red.” Why is it , that every time we get to know someone… they disappear. There’s something going on. I need to find out.”
“Let’s go home Mizu” said Kaji.
“I always knew that Kaji meant something, but I was never sure. My name means something too… but I can’t figure out what it is either.”
“Okay, lets go” (As there walking home)
“I already miss dad.”
“Me too”
“What do we do now?”
“We live”
(Late that night..)
“Why does my life have to be so horrible…why does everything have to be based on death. One day, I think I‘m going to wake up and Kaji is gone. Why, why do I have to live this life.
“Mom, come back.” Cried Kaji in his sleep.
Our mom was the third to die. Before that it was yoto my brothers best friend, then chita one of my friends in my class. After mom, it was Mimi, my aunt. Everyone died this last year…” (Morning again)
"AAAHHH!!!Mizu help!!!"
“No, not Kaji too! Kaji I’m coming!”Oh no! He’s gone! Where’d he go!”(As she was stepping out of the door)
“You need to be faster! said Kaji “No matter if this is a false alarm we both need to practice more.”
“Okay… but I was hoping to sleep in.”
“ My brother and I practice every emergency that we can think of at least twice a week. The first one we thought of is when someone says,: “Your cousin wants you two to come with me to the hospital” or something like that, but the stranger has to tell us our family password which is “Balonie” and if he guesses wrong we scream and run away saying “Please stop him! He’s trying to take us!" And the other one we practice is the morning one, the one we just did."
“Hey, we’re out of milk” Kaji said in disappointment.
“Well then, lets go to the store!”
“We live in a very small town, so I was kind of happy to go to the store since my brother and I would see all of our other friends”
Ding Dong!
“Welcome to Wal-Mart how can I help you?”
“Oh, were fine! We don’t need any help but thank you anyway!” Mizu said in excitement
“Hey look! It’s that dead guys kids!”
“Oh those poor kids, having no mother or father.”
“Ha ha ha ha ha!Now we can beat them up without getting in trouble by their parents!”
“That’s all we heard walking through the store, and I was getting upset… I thought going to the store would cheer us up, but it only made it worse…”
(Outside)
“Kids where following us saying:” “Ha! Ha! You have no parents”
“Parentless babies! Ha! Ha!”
“I was feeling like beating the crap out of those boys but I knew that my mother and father wouldn’t like that. I’m pretty sure that my brother felt the same way but he didn’t say anything to me.
“Kaji, just ignore them”
“These stupid guys are making me mad!” thought Kaji “I am going to beat the heck out of these jerks! "No Kaji! don't hurt them!"
